Wilson K. Barnes, III is a trial attorney at Shaw & Morrow. His practice focuses on the aggressive defense of physicians and hospitals in medical malpractice cases.

Mr. Barnes was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He represents the next generation of his family committed to legal excellence in Maryland. Wilson K. Barnes, his grandfather, was a prominent Baltimore attorney who later became a Judge on the Court of Appeals, Maryland’s highest appellate court. William Calvin Chesnut, his great-grandfather, also served as a judge sitting on the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.

Mr. Barnes graduated from Harvard University in 1993 where he majored in history and played lacrosse. He went on to receive his Juris Doctor from Widener University School of Law in 1998. Mr. Barnes was admitted to the bar in Maryland in 1998 and the United States District Court of Maryland in 2000.

In 1999, Mr. Barnes served as a law clerk to the Honorable Maurice W. Baldwin, Jr. of the Circuit Court for Harford County.

In 2000, he joined the Baltimore law firm of Anderson, Coe & King as an associate attorney where he focused on representing corporations in general liability matters as well as physicians in medical malpractice claims.

In 2005, Mr. Barnes was an associate with Semmes, Bowen & Semmes in Baltimore where he represented corporations in general liability matters. In 2006, he joined Cornblatt, Bennett, Penhallegon & Roberson as an associate where he focused on representing hospitals and physicians in medical malpractice claims and licensing and credentialing matters.

Prior to joining Shaw & Morrow, Mr. Barnes co-founded Dumer & Barnes, P.A., a firm which focused on medical malpractice, wrongful death, personal injury, and other civil litigation. Over the course of ten years, Mr. Barnes obtained millions for catastrophically injured clients.

Mr. Barnes is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association. He is also the former President of the Saint Thomas More Society of Maryland.

Mr. Barnes is married with three children, and resides in Harford County.
